Mack passed away unexpectedly following a brief illness. He is survived by his loving family; his wife, Dorothy (Dody) Bain McCarthy, his son, Tom, daughter-in-law, Joyce, two grandsons, Thomas (Tommy) and Matthew, several nieces and nephews, and many other loving family and friends. Mack will be best remembered for the love and dedication he had for his family.
Mack was born in New York and moved to Larkspur with his family when he was 7 years old; he graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1940. He served in the Army during World War II, attended College of Marin and San Francisco Teachers College (now SFSU) where he earned his teaching credential and Master's Degree in School Administration. He retired from the San Francisco Public School District (Horace Mann) where he had been Vice Principal.
Mack married his childhood friend and sweetheart, Dody, in 1952, recently celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Upon retirement, they moved back to the family home in Larkspur. Mack enjoyed gardening, fishing, hiking and traveling.
He was a member of the San Francisco Retired Teachers Association, the American Legion and involved in the Marin County Historical Society.
Viewing Tuesday, Sept. 18th, 5-8pm with Rosary at 7:00pm at Keaton's Mortuary, 1022 E Street, San Rafael. Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church, Larkspur on Wednesday, Sept 19th at 10:00am with burial service following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.
