

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Amit Acharya at the age of 53 on August 6, 2024. Amit was born to parents Satya Prakash Acharya and Nidhi Acharya in Richmond Virginia. After graduating from high school, he went on to study at Virginia Commonwealth University and then law school at City University of New York or CUNY Law. After graduating from law school, he joined the Virginia Department of Health WIC compliance team.
Amit was predeceased by his father Satya Prakash Acharya. He is survived by his wife, Nupa Agarwal, his sister Smita Gupta, his mother Nidhi Acharya, brother in law Sunil Gupta and his two nephews Vivek and Vinay Gupta and of course his two dogs Chloe and Claire.
Amit was deeply loved by his family and friends, whose lives were enriched by his presence.
Amit’s kindness, warmth, and ability to connect with others left an indelible mark on everyone he met. His family and friends will always remember his gentle spirit, spirited laughter, and the joy he brought into their lives.
As a dedicated lawyer with the Virginia Department of Health, Amit approached his profession with integrity and a steadfast commitment to justice. Yet, it was his vibrant personality and infectious laughter that left a lasting impression. Amit had a unique gift for conversation, engaging with people from all walks of life on a myriad of subjects.
Amit’s untimely departure leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever miss his joyful presence and the warmth he brought into every room. Though his life was cut short, his legacy of compassion, joy, and wisdom will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
In honoring Amit’s memory, let us remember his ability to connect with others and the laughter he generously shared. His spirit will live on in the cherished memories of all who loved him.
Services will be held at the Woody Funeral home at 1771 N Parham Rd, Richmond, VA on Sunday August 11, 2024 at 12:00 PM. It is the family’s wish that you if you wish to send flowers please do so through Coleman Brothers Flowers. You may also donate to the SPCA as he loved his two stray dogs.
