Obituary of Barbara "Bobbie" Jean Jones
Barbara "Bobbie" Jean Jones, passed away on Saturday, June 25th at the age of 86. She left peacefully with loved ones holding her hand, and speaking our love and appreciation in the comfort of her home. Her focus was her children, family and good friends. We shall be eternally grateful for her love, gentle spirit, laughter, and support through the years. Bobbie was born on December 4th, 1935 in Roanoke, VA. She was the daughter of a decorated U.S. Army Sergeant and grew up on dairy farms in Penhook, VA and Burgaw, NC. After graduating from Burgaw High School, she attended nursing school in Wilmington, NC for a year before falling in love with Kibby Jones. School was interrupted by the arrival of Michael her oldest child. But her love of learning and reading and dancing didn’t stop there. She loved to read to all of her five children, Michael, Eric, Angela, John and Kathleen Nevada, and passed her love of books and learning to all. She also loved traveling with us when we were young and full of wonder! The summers traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway and Wrightsville Beach were amazing! Mom was a very social, kind hearted and dedicated woman. She enjoyed her camaraderie with fellow co-workers to bring the very best to the children whose lives she touched while working for Henrico County Public Schools, (Tuckahoe Middle, and Tucker High). She was wholeheartedly present for over 20 years while working in the school system. She truly loved her work. She also enjoyed her part time job at Sears in the evening and made friends easily. Students and teachers, co-workers and customers loved her positive attitude and laughter! She passed this along to all her children and grandchildren. After retirement in 2001, her life was full of travel! Bobbie loved traveling to the beach with friends, to the Caribbean with her daughter, Angela, to Great Britain with her brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy, Herminea and Jimmy, Lynn and to Puerto Rico with her son, Michael, to Key West with her daughter, Kathleen and “sisters,” Aunt Virginia and Aunt Nevada. She loved the beach and visits with her friends, brothers, cousins, plus her grandchildren, Ben, David, Joshua, Allison, Viet, Jeremiah, Stephan and Vlad. She was a most excellent grandmother! She was happiest with all her family around, reminiscing and sharing stories. She and dad frequently rented a beach house in Topsail Island in the summer. Those times with family were the times of our lives. She was steadfastly loving and loyal, dedicated to her family, children, and grandchildren. If they needed support, she was there. If we had any sort of challenge, she would do anything to help. She would bring her levity, balance and laughter to issues, as well as cry and celebrate with us. She was as confident, strong, kind, gentle and loving as her mom and dad, Ada and Bill. She bore unbelievable grief and hardship at times yet found a way to laugh about some silly little thing. She will be missed. She is survived by her younger brothers, Jim and his wife, Lynn Spender, and Bill and his wife, Herminea Spender. Their children, Katrina, Laurie, Elizabeth and Chris, and a multitude grandchildren. Bobbie’s children, Michael, Eric, Angela, John and Kathleen Nevada. Her grandchildren, Ben and wife, Katie, David and his husband, Garrett, Josh, Allison, Viet, Jeremiah, Stephan and Vlad; as well as wonderful great grandchildren, Eden, Janna and Benjamin. She has loved us all. Thank you, kind family and friends. Your thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated. As Bobbie dearly loved pets, we request that you kindly donate to Richmond Animal Care and Control Foundation in lieu of flowers.
