Soles, Bobby Waylon, 77 of Richmond, passed away on June 20, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents, Rudolph and Gly Soles and daughter Sandi Soles Bridgers. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Laura Rich Soles; daughter Brandi Soles Brown (Buddy), grandsons Dustin Harrell (Megan) and Logan Walton and great grandson Greyson Harrell and granddaughter Alexandra Bridgers; brother Billy Soles (Sonja). Growing up in Tabor City, NC instilled a love for beach music and shag dancing. By following that one passion he met the love of his life, Laura. His love for Laura, his family and friends were his life. His love for hunting, fishing, traveling, Civil War history and making knives gave him great enjoyment. He was a graduate of UNC Pembroke and earned a master’s degree from Virginia State University. Early in his career he taught, coached and was a principal in the Greensville County School System. He completed his career as a Superintendent for the Virginia Department of Corrections.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Woody Funeral Home - Parham on July 24, 2021 at 1pm. A reception will follow immediately after the celebration. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Crater Community Hospice or the American Cancer Society

I grew up in Emporia, VA where Bobby coached and taught. He happened to be a neighbor and the father of my best friend Sandi. I have memories of Bobby on Lakeside Drive and am sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to Laura, Brandi and the family.

Mr. Soles was the Assistant Warden for Programs when I began as a counselor at Buckingham Correctional Center on June 16, 1987. It was both a joy and privilege to work in his department. He was kind, firm, understanding and was always willing to listen. One of the very best.
