MARTH, Brian P., 62, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord Monday, August 8, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Pamela S. Marth; brother, Paul E. Marth (Phyllis); nephew, David B. Marth (Allison); and niece, Kristi J. Marth; stepson, Christopher Scott Porter (Sarah); and stepdaughter, Kristin P. Officer (Ray). Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Alice and Paul W. Marth.
Brian had many interests and hobbies, with two in particular of which he was the most enthusiastic. While he played golf most of his adult life, it was after his retirement in 2011 that he really found his love for the game, playing several days a week with his regular group at Sycamore Creek. The second is the University of Richmond. For a short time following his graduation from the Business School, Brian served as a member of the UR Admissions Office. His real passion over the years was his love for University of Richmond athletics. He was a season ticket holder in football and basketball each year after his graduation in 1976.
And after his retirement, he enjoyed watching all Spider sport- if they were at home, he was there, and he traveled to many away games. Brian was a true advocate for the Spiders. He was a spirited volunteer, whether he was helping with promotional mailings, fund raising or recruiting Spider Club members. Brian was a former President and Board Member of the Spider Club. No one loved the Spiders more than Brian. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and his church.
His remains rest at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Rd. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to University of Richmond Spider Club, 28 Westhampton Way, University of Richmond, Va. 23173. Online condolences to WoodyFuneralHome.com.
