Carole Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Frederick (“Fred”), and by her parents, Emily and Ralph. She is survived by her brother Edwin Anderson (Jean), her sister-in-law Virginia Puryear, her children Andy (Deborah), Annette, Robyn, and Chris (Jenifer), and her treasured grandchildren—Caitlin, Ian, Alex, Jonathan, Savannah, Lillian, and Evelyn—as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly.
Born and raised in Lakeside, Carole Jean made her home for her entire adult life in Richmond’s West End. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for over 60 years.
Carole Jean treasured her many “titles”: Mom, Gamma, Sister, Sister-in-law, Aunt/Auntie, Cousin, and Friend. She was the embodiment of love and devotion, a woman whose greatest joy was caring for the people she held dear. She found happiness in simple, meaningful moments: time with family, decades of bridge games with her cherished club, weekly lunches with her beloved “Darlings,” and the occasional mischievous prank that brought laughter to everyone around her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Carole Jean’s caregivers and to the staff of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital for the exceptional, compassionate care they provided.
Carole Jean’s legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
