Charles Philip Carr, (USN Retired), 105, of Richmond, passed away on July 29, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Catherine U. Carr, parents, Elizabeth M. Carr and Howard B. Carr, sister Ann C. Waggoner, son, Philip H. Carr, and grandson, Christopher P. Carr.
He is survived by his son, James D. Carr (Sandra Bonanno), daughter, Anne Carr Regan (Jim Westlyn); daughter-in-law Dee A. Carr; granddaughters Michelle C. Mullins (Joe) and Tara C. McShane (Lee); great granddaughters Elaina and Leah Mullins; and numerous friends.
A WWII veteran, Charlie proudly served in the Pacific in Communications Intelligence and post war was one of 200 officers chosen to help create the National Security Agency. After his naval career, he was an administrator at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. At age 91 he became a favorite regular at the Lemaire bar in the Jefferson Hotel, “holding court” each Thursday night with his charm and witty stories. His last evening there was on July 7, 2022. His recipe for longevity was, “keep moving and enjoy a martini!”
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Woody Funeral Home Parham, 1771 N. Parham Rd., in Richmond. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Navy Safe Harbor Foundation, www.safeharborfoundation.org.
