Obituary of Clyde Gauldin
Clyde Neal Gauldin, 87, passed away on September 8, 2013. He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan Lee Gauldin. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary Coleman Gauldin, his son C. Neal Gauldin Jr. and daughter in-law Myra Cannon, two grandchildren, Jenna R. Gauldin and Erin M. Gauldin, his sister Christine Major, brother James Gauldin and wife Jean, as well as his beloved nieces and nephews. Born October 4, 1926 in Danville, VA, he served in the U.S. Airforce during World War II. He returned to Danville, and while working for his uncle at Danville Lumber Co. he graduated High School. He moved to Blacksburg, VA and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in building construction class of 52, after he moved to Richmond, VA where he worked as a plant manager for masonry block company there. He had building in his blood and in 1955 opened his home building business where he was active until his death. He had a passion for custom building and land development, over the years his reputation grew and people knew him for his quality homes. He helped develop Stonehendge subdivision and its Country Club as well as Windsor Place West subdivision. As a longstanding active member and deacon at River Road Church Baptist, he served on numerous councils and committees, he loved working with the church and watching it grow over time. He was past member of West End Businessmen’s Association. He was a past president of the home builders association of Richmond, as well as a Life Director and Ernest E. Mayo Award winner. He was always involved and had many friends. He enjoyed his home in Deltaville where he spent most of his summer weekends. His love was sailing, as past commodore of Fishing Bay Yacht Club, He loved racing his boat “Wing” The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 5:30 to 8:00pm at the Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd, Richmond, VA. there will be a memorial service at River Road Church Baptist 8000 River Rd, Richmond, VA at 11:00am on Thursday, September 12, 2013 with a reception to follow.
