

DeWitt Taylor Brooks, Jr., 84, went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2013. He is survived by Jean, his beloved wife of 59 years, his four children and their spouses, Nicole, Fran, and her husband Pete, Jeff, and his wife Lori, Steve, and his wife Beanie, and his precious grandchild, Ashleigh.
Brooks served his country in the 1st US Calvary in the Pacific during World War II. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1954.
During his professional career of over 5 decades in marketing, public relations, and advertising, he served as president of the Ad Club of Richmond and was a recipient of its Ad Man of the Year award.
He was a member of the United Way, and secretary of the Kiwanis Club of West Richmond, as well as a member of the Virginia Historical Society, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and served as marketing director for the Christian Chamber of Commerce.
Brooks was also active in the Virginia Retail Merchants Association and the Metro Economic Development Council.
Brooks and Jean were active members of Welborne United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18th at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road. A service celebrating Brooks’ life will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 4:00 p.m. at Welborne United Methodist Church, 920 Maybeury Drive.
