Dorothy Wilson Seifert passed in her home surrounded by her family on February 21, after a brief illness-just 5 months shy of her 100th birthday. Dorothy was born during World War I in 1917 in Roanoke, VA to Pearl Hartman and Hugo Willard Wilson. She was the second oldest of 4 girls. Their father died when Dorothy was 13-years-old. She left school and went to work as a beautician to help the family.
She married Sylvester Paul Seifert on Easter Sunday in 1949 and soon had Kathleen Rose, their “sun and moon.” After Paul passed in 1986, Dorothy moved to Richmond to live with Kathy, her husband Jim, and her three grandchildren- Whitney, Paul, and Katie. She earned “Best Grandmother Ever” in their eyes, a title she treasured.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters: Audrey, Mildred, and Virginia; her husband, Paul; and her friends—she outlived everyone, which her family believes was due to the 2 fingers of Virginia Gentlemen Bourbon she consumed every night for 28 years at exactly 5 pm.
She loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, white peonies, and “her” dogs Paddington and Beauregard to which she fed treats, surreptitiously, and earned their love and affection until the end of time. She was overly fond of Roanoker restaurant biscuits, which were ordered in multiple dozens at a time so she could eat one each morning.
Family will receive friends Monday, February 27 at the Parham Chapel of The Woody Funeral Home 5-7 pm. Funeral will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 28 at 11am, reception to follow. Additional visitation will be held an hour prior to mass. Burial will be at St. Andrew’s Cemetery in Roanoke, VA on 1:30pm Wednesday, March 1st.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to FeedMore or your local SPCA.
