Isom, Earline Marintha Lewis (86 yrs ) went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 30, 2022. She was surrounded by friends and family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Staple Delano “Sam” Isom; father, Garvey Lewis; and mother, Zell Lewis. She is survived by her children, David Isom; Kevin Isom; and Lisa Fenne; as well as 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She loved hew country childhood and enjoyed telling stories of her life in the mountains of rural North Carolina, Cumberland County, and Fluvanna County. She thoroughly enjoyed gardening and would get so excited when fresh vegetables came into season. She loved canning and freezing fresh vegetables, especially those that came from the family gardens at the farm. She was widely known among family and friends for her love of a fresh Hanover Tomato sandwich. Mom was especially proud of her roses, azaleas, and crape myrtles. She found much pleasure and satisfaction in cross-stitching. She was extremely proud of her work and would often frame and hang her work around the house.
Mom would light up a room with her smile and a twinkle of her eye. It was that smile and twinkle of the eye that caught the attention of a young Staple Delano Isom. They met while both worked at the F.B.I – Richmond, VA. Office. As children came along, she decided o be a Stay-At-Home Mom. She volunteered at the PTA for Ridge Elementary School, as well as drove her kids and the neighborhood kids to baseball and basketball practices / games. During the year, neighborhood kids would congregate to the house for backyard football and baseball games. She was certain to have snacks and Kool-Aid for everyone and at 5:00pm, would send them home to do their homework. In doing so, she became widely known and respected in the neighborhood. Everyone either knew or knew of Mom.
Mom was truly loved by one and all. She will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7pm on Monday, January 9. The funeral will be at 12:30pm on Tuesday, January 10 at Woody’s Funeral Home; followed by a graveside service at Westhampton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ridge Baptist Church and The Alzheimer’s Association.
