Helen S Davis

DAVIS, Helen Stephenson, 101, of Richmond, passed away on August 17, 2014. She was born on April 15, 1913, in Petersburg, Va., and graduated from Petersburg High School in 1930. She graduated from Hollins College in 1934 and married Loyal Hiram Davis in 1939. She was a charter member of River Road Church, Baptist (1946), where she taught Sunday school (both children and later the Lydia Class), was active in the WMU and served on numerous committees. She was a member of the Tuckahoe Woman's Club for many years and a resident of Lakewood Manor Retirement Community since 1995, where even in her later years she was known for her wit and wisdom. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Lakewood Manor for its warm kindness and gentle care given to Mother over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyal; and great-grandson, Aloysius. She is survived by her two sons, Robert Davis and his wife, Loretto Davis of Harleysville, Pa. and George Davis and his wife, Kathryn "Kitty" Yeatts Davis of Richmond; one daughter, Margaret Davis Hicks and her husband, Thomas Hicks of Chesterfield; seven grandchildren, Michael Davis, Jonathan Davis, Mark Davis, Philip Davis, Benjamin Hicks, Sarah Hicks Call and Alan Hicks; nine great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and faithful companion and friend, Margie Turner. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, at River Road Church, Baptist at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Visitation and a reception will follow the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
