Hughes, Horace W. "Whitey", 81, of Richmond, a retired Battalion Chief for the City of Richmond Fire Department, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara H. Hughes; daughter, Diane Hughes, of Richmond; sons, Dave Hughes and his wife, Sharon, of Montpelier and Steven Mitchell Hughes and his wife, Nancy, of Richmond; sisters, Nancy Gifford, of Tampa, Fla. and Jane Moody and her husband, Bryan, of Richmond; his beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Nikki, Sydney and Grace Hughes; great-grandaughter, Whitney (Ally) Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a lifetime member of Grace Baptist Church. Whitey retired from the City of Richmond family of Fire Fighters after 35 years of service. The family will receive friends from 12 noon til 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., with a memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to Grace Baptist Church, 4200 Dover Rd., Richmond, Va.
