James Dudley Doswell passed away on June 29, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Philys P. Doswell; daughter, Janice D. Gravitt (Wayne); grandsons, Christopher Crosby (Christa), and Elliott Gravitt (Emily). "Grand" also leaves his great-granddaughters, Landon and Fields. Other survivors include his sister, Martha Davis; brother-in-law, Danny Bugay; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jimmy served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he resumed his 42-year career with RF&P Railroad, retiring in 1985 as General Superintendent of Transportation.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA 23229, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 9801 Fort King Rd., Richmond, VA 23229 on Tuesday, July 2. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Entombment will take place on Wednesday, July 17 at 11 a.m. at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond, VA 23238.
