

BYNUM, Jean Elizabeth Flanagan, 91, of Henrico County, widow of A. Brooks Bynum Jr., passed away peacefully on June 1, 2018. Jean was born on October 16, 1926, in Hendersonville, N.C. to Jane Elizabeth Florie McGill and James Harold Flanagan. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in Education. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Brooks, and moved to Fayetteville, N.C. and Jacksonville, Fla. before settling in Richmond. She served as an active volunteer in many community organizations and passed along her passion for volunteering to her daughters and grandchildren. She was a member of the Tuckahoe Woman's Club, P.E.O. and an Elder and President of Presbyterian Women at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church. Jean's life was enriched by the fellowship of family, including her daughters, grandchildren, five great-granddaughters and a multitude of friends. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, gardening and was an avid bridge player. Jean was predeceased by her husband, her parents; and her sister, Joanne Flanagan Reynolds of Missoula, Mont. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Elizabeth Bynum and Martha Bynum Anderson; her grandchildren, Matthew Garland Anderson II (Happy) and Brooks Anderson Whitten (Harrison); her five great-granddaughters, Harper, Townsend and Elsie Anderson, and Hart and Parker Whitten; brother-in-law, William A. Reynolds of Missoula, Mont.; sister-in-law, Agnes Bynum of Stillwater, Minn.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on June 6, 2018, at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Jean's name to Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church, 7000 Park Ave., Richmond, Va. 23226. The family wishes to thank the staff at Cedarfield for their love, compassion and support.
