RASNICK, John Marshall Jr., 95, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness on December 12, 2018. He was born on Christmas Day in 1922, to John M. Rasnick Sr. and Edith Vance Rasnick in Clintwood, Virginia. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Lucille Y. Rasnick; daughter, Kathy R. Schultheis; and brother, Ralston V. "Jack" Rasnick. He is survived by his children, Marsha R. Costen (Ralph), John M. "Nick" Rasnick III; grandchildren, Tripp Costen (Jill), Katherine C. Schultheis (Danielle), Sarah S. Albrecht (Patrick), John M. "Marshall" Rasnick IV and Laura C. Rasnick; great-grandchildren, Currie and Rally Costen and Keller and Ceely Albrecht. Other survivors include David Schultheis (Judy) and Suzanne Rasnick.
John graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and completed post-graduate work at St. Christopher's School, and attended Virginia Tech before enlisting in the Army in 1943. During WWII, he served in the European Theatre of Operations, being one of the first infantrymen to land on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, and participating in every major initiative in Europe. John's extensive work history began as an usher at Loews Theatre in 1939.
After an honorable discharge, his civilian career resumed with the Commonwealth of Virginia in many capacities, retiring as Executive Director of the State Compensation Board. After retirement, he served as Clerk of the Senate Finance Committee for the Virginia General Assembly.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church, and a 32nd Degree Mason at Westhampton Lodge #302.
