Malcolm Bruce Nunnally, age 88, of Henrico, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Born in Virginia to the late Otho and Catherine Nunnally, he was one of seven children. He was a proud graduate of Thomas Dale High School. Bruce attended Hargrave Military Academy for a post graduate year before heading to Wake Forest College where he played football.
Bruce adored sports from the early days of his childhood. He excelled as a four-sport athlete at Thomas Dale (football, basketball, baseball, track) and was recognized as a High School Football All-American for his efforts. His love of sports continued after his playing days ended, and his generous support of multiple organizations helped influence the lives of so many athletes. Most notably, Bruce sponsored Richmond’s National Wheelchair Basketball team serving Paralyzed Veterans of America, and the Richmond Stompers women’s softball team. The Stompers won two ASA National Championships, and Bruce was inducted into the Central Virginia ASA Hall of Fame with many of his former players.
The source of Bruce’s overwhelmingly generous support came from his business, Quality Meats. He worked from an early age delivering milk “for a nickel a day” and later became a lifeguard at Moores Lake. The unwavering support of his wife Shirley and his work ethic provided the foundation for his success with Quality Meats.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was happiest sitting on the bleachers at his grandchildren's sporting events. From college football games to middle school cross-country meets, he was their biggest supporter, and everyone knew him by name.
Bruce leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Nunnally; children, Kim Ward (Joe), Cheryl Lynn Kleindienst, David Bruce Nunnally (Sandy); grandchildren, George Bland (Clare), Brandon Bruce Nunnally (Caley), Chelsea Kleindienst, Mackenzie Kroll (Michael), Cameron Ward; great-grandchildren, Andrew Bland, Ryan Malcolm Bland, Marley Nunnally, Benjamin Bruce Nunnally, Isabella Kroll, Molly Kathryn Nunnally; brother Danny Nunnally; sister, Kitty Addison.
