Mary Gatewood Jones, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2018, at the age of 70 years. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Mary was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, where she later returned for graduate school to earn both a Master’s Degree in Education, as well as a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She spent the majority of her career as a social worker with the Fan Free Clinic in Richmond, Virginia, where she served as the Director of Counseling and Support Services. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, John M. Gatewood Jr., and Mary Ober Gatewood. She is survived by two loving sons, Peyton Adams Jones and Cabell Boykin Jones, as well as her former husband and best friend, Sherwood Adams Jones. A graveside memorial service will be held for Mary on Friday, August 31, 2018, at 11:00 am, at Hollywood Cemetery, 412 South Cherry Street, Richmond, Virginia 23220. Memorial contributions in Mary’s honor may be made to the Fan Free Clinic, 1010 N. Thompson Street, Richmond, Virginia 23230.
