Obituary of Michael David Crowe
Michael David Crowe, 54 years old, passed away unexpectedly Friday April 28, 2023, in Powhatan, VA. Mike was born on March 3, 1969, in Slidell, LA and subsequently resided in Renton WA, Lynchburg VA, Wilmington DE, Arlington VA, Salem VA, and Powhatan VA. Mike graduated from Concord High School in 1987 in Wilmington, DE and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA in 1991 and 1993. While at Virginia Teach Mike earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He was a scholar athlete playing soccer at both the high school and collegiate level. Mike applied his education as a professional, leader, and mentor at Kollmorgen in Radford, VA for 24 years. He served in multiple positions including his most recent promotion to Vice President & General Manager of Kollmorgen Americas. In the days since his passing, the family has been awash with the love and support from loved ones and the community. It is apparent that he made a lasting impact on people's lives. Those who loved Mike knew he was a man of many colors. Mike’s passions included traveling the world, coaching youth soccer, tailgating at VA Tech football games, and proclaiming himself as a Bourbon specialist, food connoisseur, and amateur Eddie Bauer model. Mike immersed himself in various forms of martial arts. He was awarded a black belt in Karate in 1992 and additional black belts in Hsing-I Kung Fu and Energetic Movement Arts, reaching the level of 7th degree black belt in martial arts. To know Mike was to love him. His witty and optimistic spirit was larger-than-life with a heart to match. He was a friend to all he met, a paradigm of generosity and support, with a knack for cracking spontaneous dad jokes. He had a talent for making everyone he knew feel like family with his big bear hugs and genuine warmth. He found great pleasure in spending time and grabbing beers with friends at local micro-breweries, lounging with his dog, Pippee, and reading books. Mike was an outstanding father, husband, brother, son, and friend who always kept family a top priority. He is survived by his wife Crystal Crowe, son Hudson Crowe, daughters Emma Steele Crowe and Aubree Harrington (The Crowingtons). He is also survived by his parents Michael Gordon and Emma Louise Crowe, his brother and sister-in law, Stephen and Kimberly Crowe, and nieces Hannah and Mars. Mike’s big heart and humor will be missed by all that knew him. A memorial service will be conducted Friday evening May the fifth at 5:00 P.M. at Oakey Funeral Home in Salem, Va. Expressions of sympathy can be made by donating to the Salem 24153 Club at Boys Soccer | Supporting the student athletes of salem high school (the24153club.com).
