BERGER, Myrta Hafner, age 90, departed this life for a new one on Good Friday, April 14, 2017. She was born February 16, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Harry and Myrta Hafner. She graduated from Philadelphia Girl’s High and Temple University. She taught math in Pennsylvania and New Jersey until starting a family. She was fortunate to marry George Berger in 1950 and to have three wonderful children and one grandson. Myrta led an active and engaged life, enjoying golf, bowling, square dancing, vegetable and flower gardening, garden club, sewing an abundance of clothes and other items of master seamstress quality, cooking and baking, and ladies’ bridge club, with a bit of travel, some cabinetmaking and Girl Scout leadership thrown in. Myrta was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as a Star Point. She was a past president of the ladies’ golf associations for Oak Hill, Belmont and the Hollows golf courses. Both of her holes-in-one came at the Hollows. Myrta and George had a loving marriage and family and enjoyed many rounds of golf together. She worked hard to ensure her children received good educations. In raising her children and running the household, Myrta provided the backbone of the family with a quiet grace, strong principles, and determination that she never lost. Always giving. Always thinking of others. She is survived by husband, George; children, Ken (Nancy), Janet (Greg) Rogers and Mike (Judy); and grandson, Will Rogers. The family wishes to thank At Home Care Hospice, especially Chelsea and Patti, and also to Flo, for their exceptional care for Myrta, allowing her to remain at home while completing her journey. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to At Home Care Hospice (athomecareandhospice.com), Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, Henrico, Va. 23229 or a charity of your choice.
