Obituary of Nancy Anne Burke
Nancy Anne Burke of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on the morning of June 7, 2021 after a thirteen year journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a loving and generous daughter, sister, aunt, and step-mother. Nancy was born August 26, 1954 in Charlotte, North Carolina to James Franklin Burke and Mary Hutcheson Burke. She is survived by her sisters Mary (Molly) Warriner Dodson and husband Roy of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Elizabeth (Betsey) Burke Daley of Richmond, Virginia; two nieces, Kimberly Dodson Hubbard of Raleigh, NC; Melissa Dodson Vandenberg of Charlotte, NC; and nephew Thomas Burke Daley of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by four wonderful grand-nephews and one grand-niece, along with a special sister-in-law, Natalie Kelly and husband Joe. Nancy graduated from Hickory High School in Hickory, NC and attended Virginia Tech. She spent most of her career in marketing for Hubbell Lighting in Christiansburg, Virginia, coordinating trade shows across the country. She was active in the Blacksburg community, including the Rotary Club of Christiansburg-Blacksburg. Nancy was the first woman to become a member of the club in 1991 and the first woman to serve as president in 1998. She traveled to China and other countries in the Far East representing Rotary. Nancy was a huge Hokie fan, and was famous for her over-the-top tailgate parties on Southgate Drive. She was a gracious hostess, and enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her art-filled home. She inherited the family green thumb, raising vegetables and flowering plants in her extensive backyard garden. Nancy loved the beach, and spent several happy summers at the Outer Banks with her sister Betsey and family. The family is extremely grateful for the loving care provided by the staff of Beth Sholom Health Care Center, where Nancy was a resident for almost ten years. Gifts in her memory may be made to Beth Sholom, 1600 John Rolfe Parkway, Richmond, Virginia 23238. A service for Nancy will be held in Blacksburg at a later date.
