Percy Durwood Snead, 90, passed into the arms of Jesus on September 24, 2013. “P.D.” was born in Victoria, Virginia, the only surviving son of Percy and Ollievine Douglas Snead. He began working for the RF&P Railroad in 1942 and retired from there 45 years later. Soon after starting at the railroad, he met Avery Kidd, the railroad’s first female employee and according to Dad, “the prettiest young woman he had ever seen.” They married in 1945 and remained committed as husband and wife for 52 years until Avery’s passing in 1998. P.D. was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a participant of several other churches. He never allowed anyone he met to remain a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. He was an avid pet lover and nursed his beloved Zoe to old age. P.D. is survived by his son, Durwood and his wife, Judi of Cumming, Georgia; five grandchildren and their spouses, Melinda Rowand of Suwanee, Georgia, Matt Snead of Xiamen, China, Josh Snead of Washington, D.C., Abigail Angove of Asheville, North Carolina, Nathan Snead of Richmond, Virginia; and nine great-grandchildren, Vera, Kai, Eden, Tobey, Olivia, Logan, Addie, Levi and Ella. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, September 28th, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, Virginia 23229; (804) 288-3013, where a memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 29th, at 3 p.m.
