Philip Austin Shepherd

SHEPHERD, Philip Austin, born July 4, 1923 in Fluvanna County, Va.Married July 20, 1947 to Joyce Annette Cox Shepherd Died November 4, 2016 in Chandler, Ariz., due to medical complications. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Annette Cox Shepherd. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Shepherd Brim; his son, Wayne Philip Shepherd; his daughter-in-law, Pamela Walsh Shepherd; his granddaughter, Taryn Brim Spates; his grandson-in-law, Shane Spates; and his great-grandsons, Michael and Mark Spates. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in agriculture engineering after serving in the Navy during WWII. He worked for Southern States Cooperative, where his last assignment was head of catalog sales. He lived in the Richmond area over 60 years. He was a member of Skipwith Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He loved music, primarily bluegrass and southern gospel. A visitation will take place at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., on Saturday, November 12, 2016, from 2 to 3 p.m., with a service to follow at 3 p.m. Interment will be private in Fork Union Cemetery.
