
WOOD, Thatcher Stoddard, 84, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Joseph and Virginia Thatcher Wood; and his brother, Robert Staples Wood. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary French Wood; his two daughters, Martha Wood Hancock and her husband, John, and Susan Wood Napotnik and her husband, Mark; his stepson, James Stevenson Frazer and his wife, April; his grandchildren, Jay Hancock and his wife, Joyanna, Hannah Hancock and Zachary Napotnik; his step grandchildren, Anna Frazer, Harrison Frazer, Katelyn Frazer and Nathaniel Frazer; and two nieces, Elizabeth Anne Wood Rennhoff and her husband, Mike, and Allison Wood Drez and her husband, Ron; and great-nieces, Chelsea and Ally Rennhoff, and Katie Drez; and great-nephew, Ronnie Drez.
Thatcher was born and raised in Kingston, New York, joined the Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific during World War II, graduated from Rutgers University in 1949 and moved to Richmond in 1952. Thatcher retired from Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company after serving 50 years as an agent who helped many people, businesses and enjoyed the long term relationships he developed. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Kiwanis Club of Richmond for 26 years, Society of Colonial Wars, Order of Founders & Patriots, Sons of the Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution and the War of 1812. He held a music class at Westminster-Canterbury for 13 years, and he volunteered to read at the Virginia Voice for 18 years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Endowment Fund, in care of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23226, or Kiwanis Club of Richmond, P.O. Box 1451, Richmond, Va. 23221. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 28, followed by a reception in the Church Fellowship Hall.
