Ann Morgan Collins, 68, of Jackson passed away on March 5, 2026 at home after a thirty-year courageous battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neuromuscular disease. She was born on November 27, 1957 in Greenwood, MS, to Barbara Ann Morgan and the late Robert Norris Morgan.
Ann graduated from Pillow Academy and went on to attend the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and earned a degree in education. While at Ole Miss, she met Larry Lee Collins, and the two married in 1979. They moved to Memphis, Tennessee, for Larry’s Internal Medicine residency and Ann taught kindergarten there for several years. They then settled in Jackson, where Ann devoted herself to raising their two girls. Being a mom was her greatest calling and she did it so well.
Ann loved to serve others. She often volunteered at her girls’ school, Jackson Academy, and the Junior League of Jackson. She was an active member at Christ United Methodist Church for many years, where she and Larry taught Sunday School. They later attended Bellwether Church until health did not allow them to worship in person. Most of Ann’s service was shown through quiet acts of kindness and compassion she performed when no one else was watching. Some of our favorites were showing love to cashiers at the grocery store, praying every time she saw an ambulance with its sirens on, always leaving “happies” for their beloved mail carrier, and sharing appreciation to the often unnoticed workers at the hospitals during her many stays.
Ann was a caretaker at heart. Even during her lengthy disease, she was more concerned about others’ needs than her own. Her life was marked by her faith in Jesus as her Savior. She was thankful for His steadfast love sustaining her during the very hard days and nights. She clung to the hope that He will one day make all things new. She was not one to complain often, and learned to appreciate the small joys and blessings in life whenever she could. Her biggest joy was being a mom along with being the best “Gigi” to her five grandchildren. She loved her family with all of her heart.
Ann was preceded in death by her father, Norris Morgan, and her brother, Bobby Morgan.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Larry Collins, who dedicated many years to caring for her needs, and their family: daughter, Lauren Collins Denley, with husband Preston and their daughters Leighton and McLean; and daughter, Erin Collins Escude’, with husband Clay and their sons William, Walker, and James. She is also survived by her mother, Barbara Morgan; brother, Bill Morgan, with wife Juli; brother, Mike Morgan, with wife Kathy; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of Ann’s doctors and nurses throughout the years. Special thanks to the Gentiva Hospice nurses and caregivers and her personal caregiver, Tina, for their compassion during the last month. Also, the deepest gratitude to all who served as her family cared for her. The years of meals, cards, and prayers meant more than many will ever know. Ann always said “to know that someone is truly praying for me is the best gift that anyone can give me.”
Visitation will be held Monday March 16, 2026 from 12:00-1:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM in the Parkway Funeral Home Chapel.
