

She was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi and was the only child of Melvin and Elizabeth Melsheimer Schuppan. She graduated from high school at St. Francis Xavier Catholic girls’ school in Vicksburg and received her Bachelor of Arts in Piano performance from the University of Southern Mississippi. She served over 50 years as a musician for the Roman Catholic church communities in Cleveland and Jackson. She also worked as an elementary school teacher, a music teacher and mostly a maker of a beautiful home for her family and friends.
She enjoyed many hobbies including playing tennis, gardening, painting, writing, basketry, travel, reading, walking with her dogs, and creating special time with family and friends. She will be remembered by family and friends for her courage and dignity in facing illness and her deep spirituality and commitment to her faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chalmas “Skip” Bowden. She is survived by her two children, Mark Bowden and his wife Rhonda of Brandon, MS and Lisa Bowden Boswell and her husband Jim of Atlanta and five grandchildren Andrew and Laura Bowden and James, John Michael and Sam Boswell.
The family is deeply grateful for her many friends in the Delta and Jackson, her church community, the St. Catherine’s community and the physicians and staff of Fresenius Dialysis clinic.
Visitation prayer service will be on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 1:00 pm at St. Richard’s Catholic Church in Jackson followed by a funeral mass at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place after the funeral at Parkway Memorial Cemetery, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Catholic Charities of Mississippi or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis.
