

Derek Andrew Humphries, 54, of Canton, MS, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, August 30th, 2024 and entered into the gates of Heaven. He eagerly awaited the moment he would be healed and at peace, no longer living in this fallen world.
He is survived by the love of his life, Michele, two sons, Andrew Blake and William Chandler (Shelby), whom he was so very proud of. Grandsons, Cash and Cooper Humphries. His father, John Dale Humphries, two sisters, Vivian McGehee and Vickie Brasher (Jeff), two brothers, Dwight (Laura) and Russell (Jenny) along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys.
Derek was a graduate of NWR High School, class of 1989. He was a great football player and often reminisced about his glory days, when he was known as “white lightening.”
Derek went on to play football at Hinds Jr College. After college, he worked in several different capacities until he realized his calling was in Sales. He loved talking to people, never meeting a stranger and made friends wherever he went. He was a great salesman, and sold everything from parts to Heavy Equipment. Lastly working in sales at Mazda of Jackson. He was often referred to as being able to sell ice to an Eskimo.
Derek loved big, with a huge heart and wasn’t ashamed to show it. He was a big family man and loved spending time with them, especially the newest additions to his family, his twin grandsons.
Derek’s favorites were hunting, fishing and watching college football. He loved hanging out with friends and making others laugh. His favorite vacationing spot was Pensacola Beach, where he’d fish in the surf for hours.
Derek will truly be missed by all of his family and friends! He was definitely one of a kind, and those that knew and loved him were truly blessed!
