April 9, 1919 - March 9, 2014
Doris Webb, 94, a long-time Jackson resident, passed away peacefully
on March 9, 2014. She is survived by daughters Susan W. Lee (husband
Walter H. Lee), and Sandra W. Smith (husband Dr. Arthur Audie Smith);
granddaughters Rachel Lee, Erin Johnson (husband Preston), Avery Smith
and Laine Smith. She had one great grandchild, David Lee Plemmons
(Rachel Lee). Her surviving sister, Frances Land, lives in Tupelo, MS.
Doris was the third of seven children born to George and Ina Holland,
who owned a farm in Mathiston, Mississippi. She attended Wood Junior
College and received an Associate Degree in Business. She married Garnett
W. Webb in 1948 after meeting him while she was employed at United Gas.
She provided him and their two daughters with a loving and caring home.
They were married 50 years when his death separated them in 1999.
Doris was a long-time member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and, most
recently, Woodland Hills Baptist Church. She loved making new friends and
enjoyed telling humorous stories about her life growing up a farm, a life she
eagerly traded for a more urban surrounding. She was a good neighbor and
was generous to everyone. She was considered by many to be an excellent
cook, and she enjoyed her role as a homemaker.
