

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Lucy Mary Deakin Quinn and Joseph Andrew Quinn, husband, Adolph J. Orkin, Jr., and son Adolph J. Orkin, III. She is survived by children, Jennifer Dawry (Plantation, FL), James "Jimmy" Orkin (Carrollton, TX), Melanie Brenner (Palm Springs, CA) and Michael Orkin (Alameda, CA); grandchildren, Travis and Peter Dawry, Andi Orkin, Scarlett And Silas Orkin.
Helen moved to Washington, DC after completing high school in Spokane, Washington and worked at the Pentagon. After the war, she was hired by Trans World Airlines where she was a airline hostess and met her husband, Ad Orkin who moved her to Jackson, Mississippi. With all of her children in school, Helen went back to college and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Belhaven College and taught briefly at Chastain Junior High.
Helen’s love of travel lead her to Rightway Travel Agency where she taught geography as well as organized trips to major US cities to enjoy art exhibits and other cultural events. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a strong supporter of the Jackson Opera. She was known for her wonderful sense of style and her adopted southern hospitality.
Visitation for Helen Orkin will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS. A celebration of life will be held Friday, August 21, 2015 at 10:00 am at Parkway Funeral Home, with an hour visitation preceding.
