

John Dalzell Peet, Jr., died in his sleep at Hospice Ministries on October 8th after a seven year battle with cancer. Born on September 30, 1946, John was a lifelong resident of Jackson, MS. After graduating from Murrah High School in 1964, he attended the University of Mississippi until enlisting in the U.S. Army and later serving in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a home builder for many years and took great pride in his work. He later was employed at Duraco Industries as a regional sales manager, where he worked until his retirement in March of 2012.
John was gentle, warm, friendly, and fun-loving. He had great compassion for human justice and the conservancy of nature. He loved gardening, fishing, blues music, and cooking out on the grill with family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his father, John D. Peet, mother, Julia Field Peet, and son James Torrey Peet. Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Jeanne Marie Peet, sons John D. Peet III of Vail, CO and Alexander Wells Peet of Destin, FL; brother Robert James Peet and wife Marcia of Madison, MS; stepsons David Annison Powers of Seattle, WA, Jason Michael Powers and wife Bethany of Madison, MS, two grandchildren, Alison Marie Powers and Michael Grantham Powers, and his faithful chocolate lab, Lulu.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm today and from 10 to 11 am on Friday at Wright and Ferguson in Ridgeland. There will be a private graveside service.
The family is grateful to the medical staff of Dr. Quanzi Qu and to caregiver Tamekia Smith.
