
Lewis Erwin Luke, 80, of Madison passed away peacefully on August 23, 2014. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 26 at 2:00pm at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Ridgeland. The family will welcome visitors beginning at 1:00pm until the service begins at 2pm. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Luke was proud to be a native of Jackson. He was born on August 9, 1934 to Lewis Elmo and Marguerite Starling Luke in Jackson. Following his graduation from Central High School in 1952, he attended Millsaps College and then enlisted for two years in the U.S. Army. In 1957 he was employed by Vickers and later spent many years working for The Office Supply Company until his retirement in 2000.
Mr. Luke was a member of North Park Presbyterian Church for over 40 years where he served as a Deacon, Ruling Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and Director of Missions. He was an active member of the MS Beekeepers Association. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to travel and hunt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Clare Beckham Luke and four daughters, Ame Berry (Forrest) of Flowood, Beth O’Brien of Ridgeland, Marguerite Travis (John) of Madison and Mary Hoover (Jesse) of Madison. He was very proud of his 12 grandchildren, Lacey Travis Madden, Nikki Travis Bonham, Jane Clare Travis, Matthew O’Brien, David O’Brien, Marguerite O’Brien, Luke Hoover, Elizabeth Hoover, Savannah Berry, Austin Berry, Sam Berry and Daniel Berry. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the employees of the Memory Care Unit at Ridgeland Point for their care for him over the past 8 months.
