

Linda Raines Walker, 80, of Ridgeland, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Briarwood Presbyterian Church with Reverend Charles Bowdler, pastor, officiating. The family will have a reception immediately following the service at the church.
Linda was born February 12, 1943 in Sullivan, Indiana. She was the daughter of Collins and Mattie Raines, of Greenville, South Carolina. Linda graduated from Greenville High School in 1961, and continued her education at Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina, where in 1965 she obtained a B.S. in Business Education with a minor in piano.
Linda made her home in Greenwood, Mississippi from 1972 until 1991. There, she was a lifetime member of the Greenwood Junior Auxiliary and a member of the Delta Garden Club. She enjoyed playing tennis and bridge and taught beginners’ piano in her home for a number of years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, where she was a Deacon and member of the choir.
In 1991, Linda moved to Jackson, Mississippi. She began her career as a legal secretary at the firm of Heidelberg & Woodliff. She continued working as a legal secretary until her retirement in 2010. She was an active member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, the church choir and flower committee. Upon retirement, she traveled, did church work, belonged to a book club, played bridge, and enjoyed her grandchildren. She also began to oil paint and gave many of her paintings to friends. She was a member of the Artists’ Guild.
Linda is survived by her son, Robert Raines Walker, his wife Carol, and their two children Anne Mabry and Raines of Madison, Mississippi; and by her daughter, Sherry Williamson, and her three children Rachel and Jack also of Madison, Mississippi and Walker of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She is also survived by her nephew, Michael McGehee and wife Lucy Clay and their two children Mattie and Sarah Jane of Tallahassee, Florida. Linda is preceded in death by her sister, Karen Raines McGehee of Tallahassee, Florida.
Memorials may be made to the choir fund of Briarwood Presbyterian church, 620 Briarwood Drive, Jackson, MS 39211, or to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Linda’s sister, Karen Raines McGehee.
