Marlene Love Liddell passed away peacefully in the presence of her family in Jackson on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Lebanon Presbyterian Church near Learned, Mississippi.
Marlene was born November 27, 1933 in Slate Springs, Mississippi to Ottis Lee and Shirley Love. She graduated from Slate Springs High School and Hinds Junior College in Raymond, where she played basketball and met her husband of over sixty years, Dick Liddell. Marlene and Dick got married and started their family where Dick was born at Adams Station, Mississippi, before moving to Jackson for Dick’s work, where they remained for many years.
Her life was marked by her deep faith and service to others, both within her family and beyond. She was active in Women in the Church where she was recognized for her many years of service and routinely provided meals, transportation and company for those who might need it. In her home, Marlene graciously and selflessly cared for her own. She continued as family seamstress long after her children were grown. She was beloved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom she dearly loved.
Marlene particularly enjoyed travel with family and friends. She was the camp cook and lead singer for numerous family camping trips in the American West and, for a time, annual August trips with family friends to Pickwick Lake. When her children left the nest, her travels took her as far as Russia and other places she wanted to see. She was always proud to announce she was from Mississippi. Later in life, she enjoyed playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, solving Wordle each day, and reading any book she could get her hands on.
Marlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick. She is survived by her son, Hal Liddell (Carolyn) of Hattiesburg, MS, her daughter, Lisa Morrison of Fairhope, AL, and son Roy Liddell (Anna) of Ridgeland, MS. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express gratitude for her caregivers at UMC in Jackson for their kindness and attention to her every need until the end.
Memorial donations may be made to Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS or to First Presbyterian Church Jackson.
