Mary Lynn Wingate, age 108, reached the end of her earthly journey on July 17, 2020. She was born in East Tennessee in the spring of 1912 when the loss of the Titanic was still a current headline. Active well into her 90’s, she was a master of domestic and culinary arts, holding firm to a culture in which formal place settings and hand-written thank you notes were unquestioned necessities. She was gracious and kind to her neighbors, loyal to her friends, grounded in her faith, and fiercely devoted to her family. She was elegant and had a design sense that never went out of style. Although a world traveler, she always returned home to proudly create, display, and serve the very best that the South had to offer. She will be welcomed by many who went before her and sorely missed by those left behind.
Mary Lynn is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Wingate of Memphis, TN, and her son and wife, James and Susan Wingate of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James M. Wingate.
A private family service will be held at Parkway Funeral Home, Ridgeland, MS.
Donations may be sent to First Baptist Church of Jackson: Ministry to Senior Adults P.O. Box 250 Jackson, MS 39205.
