Melissa’s life revolved around James, Carmen, Becca, and Bryan and she constantly kept them all connected and cared for. I know you all will miss her unending support and love forever.
I became friends with Melissa through our shared friend, Jean Kelly, at UMMC and we continued our friendship after Jean retired. Melissa and I enjoyed our occasional lunches out, and then our lunches in—while she had chemotherapy and later, when she was confined to home during the toughest of times.
I loved Melissa’s outward strength and irreverence, but I felt especially close to her when she expressed her vulnerable, soft side and allowed others in to help her. I will really miss her.

Melissa was my friend. I met her through working with Dr. Bofill, and we just seemed to hit it off. Her children and husband were at the very core of each day and she loved them dearly.
We had many shared lunches and dinners over the years, a little respite in our busy weeks.
When she first became sick, she was a staunch warrior through it all., meeting every challenge head on and with that wry sense of humor. She helped me move on after the death of my first husband and came to the wedding when I married my current husband.
We would text and we would talk on the phone after I moved from Jackson, always picking up where we last left off. She would tell me when she was going into a solitary time, which she did from time to time, just so I wouldn't worry about her.

I will miss her.

This summer I visited Murfreesboro for the first time since my family left in 1970. My visit to 703 Chickasaw triggered many happy memories of visiting the Bellantonis, trimming a Christmas tree, launching a home-made hot-air balloon -- and memories of Melissa, as close a friend as any 7-year-old could have. She was an important part of my childhood and I think of her and her family often. Rest in Peace.
