A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the chapel of Broadmoor Baptist Church, Madison, MS at 11:00 AM.
Michael was born on August 26, 1939 to Houston Lewis Wood and Clare Marie Val Loft Wood of Kingsville, TX. He was the youngest of nine children born to the Wood family.
After graduating from high school, Michael enrolled in the University of Houston, Texas. His college was interrupted during the Cuban Missile Crisis, at which time he left school and joined the United States Army. After completing three years in the army, where he proudly served his Country, he returned to the University of Houston, Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Michael was hired by the General Electric Company and was transferred to Jackson, Mississippi as a sales representative. He later opened an electrical supply house in downtown Jackson and maintained that business until his retirement.
Michael enjoyed travel, gardening, scuba diving and especially golf. He was a member of the Annandale Golf Club and played golf at least three times per week until such time as his health declined. He and wife Bobbie enjoyed scuba diving trips to Rotan, Honduras; Cozumel, Mexico and Maui, Hawaii. They also attended health spas in Utah and Tennessee.
Michael was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and a member of Happy Hearts Life Group where he was an active member of the outreach program.
He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston Lewis and Clare Marie Wood of Kingsville, TX; brothers, Thurlow Wood of Kingsville, TX, Channing Wood, Sr. of Houston, Texas, Houston Lewis Wood, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters, Charmain Wood of Kingsville, TX, Connie Wood Fry of Delaplane, VA, Lillian Ruth Beaty of Jousah Tree, CA; Sister-in-law, Edna Wood Goodman (Bernard) of Houston, TX; grand-Daughter, Mandi Adell Kennedy of Florence, MS.
Survivors: Wife of 29 years, Bobbie Jean Floyd Wood, sister Thelmarie Browne of San Antonio, TX, Son, Gene Wood (Karlynne) of Ridgeland, MS, daughter, Heather Wood Lolley (Steve) of Canton, MS, Step-son, John Scott Kennedy of Brandon, MS, Step-daughter, Stephanie Lynn Puckett of Pensacola, FL, Christine Baker of Pensacola, FL, grandchildren, Paton and Bailey Wood of Ridgeland, MS, Katie, Hannah and Logan Lolley of Canton, MS, Johnathan Michael Kennedy of Pearl, MS and great grandson, Maddox Lane Kennedy, special pet yorkie, Brandi and many nieces and nephews.
