
Nancy McElroy Long of Jackson, MS passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014. She was born on January 4, 1934 in Baldwyn, MS to Minnie and Buster McElroy. She grew up in Baldwyn and graduated from Baldwyn High School in 1952. Nancy attended MSCW and completed her Duke University Dietetic Internship in 1956, becoming a Registered Dietician. From 1956-1958, she worked as a member of the dietetic staff at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Upon her return to Mississippi she was named head dietician at Tupelo Hospital. She also held dietician positions at Methodist Rehabilitation Center in Jackson and ended her career with Mississippi Valley Foods at State Hospital in Flowood.
Nancy was a lifelong Presbyterian; she spent the last forty years at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson where she was an active member of the choir and Flower Guild.
Her social activities included the Demitasse Club, Talisman Club and multiple bridge clubs. She also led neighborhood fund raisers for the March of Dimes and supported French Camp Academy and the International Ballet Competition.
She is survived by her three children, Kel Long of Atlanta, GA, Mac Long (Paula) of Madison, MS and Emily Bennett (Steve) of Atlanta, GA, seven adoring grandchildren who loved their "Nan", her brother Robert McElroy, four loving nephews and many devoted friends.
Visitation will be 4-6pm Friday August 22, 2014 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday August 23, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Burial will be in Baldwyn, MS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be French Camp Academy.
