Pat (Greer) Huffstatler

Pat Greer Huffstatler, 82, of Byram, MS passed away surrounded by family on February 16, 2026 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She was born in Union County, MS on January 10, 1944 to Fannie Armstrong and Mitchell Greer, joining her brother Charlie and sister Jenny to complete a family forever devoted to each other and their Christian faith. After spending her earliest years on the family farm in Ellistown, MS, she happily retired from farming life at the age of 11. She went on to graduate from W.P. Daniel High School in New Albany, MS in 1962, Northeast Mississippi Community College, and Blue Mountain College in 1965 with a degree in Elementary Education.

On February 23, 1968, she married Harvey, kicking off 58 years of adventures rarely of her choosing. These adventures often involved some manner of critter brought into her house as a pet, for show-and-tell, or even as a questionable supper. Along the way, she traded in teaching for full-time homemaking, raising their three daughters, serving in a variety of capacities at church, and managing Harvey’s hijinks.

Beginning in 1999, Pat took on her most successful role as “Grancar” to seven of the kindest, smartest, fastest, most talented, and best-looking grandchildren in the whole wide world. Over the years, Grancar and Papa devoted a tremendous amount of time, energy, and concession-stand money to attending countless athletic events, recitals, and other programs for all the grandchildren. They brightened up her life like a supernova and she fiercely loved and was so very proud of each and every one of them.

Survivors include her husband Harvey; her daughters and two sons-in-law: Gena and Dave Dear of Madison, MS, Marla and Warren Speed of Jackson, MS, and Leah Huffstatler of Cornelia, GA; the seven best grandkids (in order of appearance): Dalton Dear, Elizabeth Speed, Davis Dear, Graham Speed, Preston Speed, Ava Dear, and Katherine Speed; her siblings and their spouses: Charlie and Jane Greer of Tupelo, MS and Virginia and Neal Huskison of Pontotoc, MS; in-laws Carolyn and Bill Wigington of New Albany, MS; and a host of much-loved nieces and nephews.

She has been reunited with her parents Fannie and Mitchell and her infant daughter Allison and we are delighted for that. For her sake, we hope Heaven is not a dairy farm.

The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care given by the nurses, doctors, assistants, technicians, and other staff at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Cardiovascular ICU. We wish to extend special gratitude to Anna Grace and Brooke for their presence in the final hours.

Family and friends are invited to join us on Saturday, February 21 at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS 39157. Visitation will begin at 10:30am with the service immediately following at noon. Inurnment will take place at a later date in New Harmony, MS.
