
Sarah Wellborn Walker died Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS at the age of 86. She was born September 19, 1929 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Tom and Bretina Wellborn, who preceded her in death, along with her brother, Dr. Tom Wellborn.
Before moving to Jackson she lived in Ponca City, Oklahoma where she was crowned “Little Miss Ponca”. She graduated from French Camp Academy where she met her future husband of over 50 years, Howard Hyde Walker, who preceded her in death, and with whom she raised five children while working at the Baptist Book Store. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Jackson. She was a “cat person” with three cats at home. She loved the large family gatherings that birthdays and holidays brought, and especially the shopping for presents that came with them.
She is survived by her five children, Scott O. Walker (Shelia), Collierville, TN; Trudy Bush (Larry), Morton, MS; Sandra Brown, Jackson, MS.; Wendy King (Louis), Raymond, MS and Tracy L. Walker (Susette), Hoover, AL., as well as 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. William T. Williams Jr., and Dr. Michael S. Hogue of the Premier Medical Group for the care and attention they gave their mother.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 4, at 11:30 a.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home on Clinton Blvd followed by a graveside service at Lakewood Memorial Park at 12:30.
