Today, while reflecting on the people who made a difference in my life, I thought of and Googled Dr. Mays. Dr. Mays delivered both of my daughters, back in 1989 and 1993. He was a wonderful man. Genuinely caring and so patient with my anxious mother who insisted to be included in the c-section operating room. My heartfelt condolences to his family. I hope it will warm your heart this holiday season to know of people like me who were touched by Dr. Mays. He will never be forgotten. May God bless you.

Dr Mays saved my life and that of our oldest son William back in 1988!  He gave William the time he needed and had to take him  8 weeks early!  I had complications from Crohns  and my whole team of doctors were the BEST at Scared Heart!    He came to see me daily and finally told me after several days that everything was going to be ok, that I was in good hands then left for a hunting trip!  He told me if we weren’t going to be ok he would have stayed!  We  had a wonder dr/patient relationship!  At 18 months our oldest was diagnosed with leukemia and I was 7 months pregnant!  He took care of us both once again.  I sat in his office making long distance phones calls and he kept checking on me after  each patient.  His wife was in his office one day and came out to meet me and our miracle baby!  He even wrote my case up and presented it at a conference.  God Bless his family!

I was a patient many years ago. I’m in Crestview where his office was. I had no idea he died!! I am so sorry 😢 to learn of this.
If you guys feel like responding, I’d certainly like to know what happened to him.

It's truly heartbreaking to hear of Dr. Mays' passing. I first came to see him when I moved into the area in 2017. My husband and I know that he saved my life. I had some severe issues that required surgery, and it turned out those issues could have possibly cost my life at only 50 years old. Because of Dr. Mays' care, regard, and surgical skills, I'm still here -- happy and healthy three years later with a new granddaughter that I may never have met if not for Dr. Mays. Not only was he a skilled physician, he was a wonderful and caring person. He always took time to talk to me. When my father died last year, it was Dr. Mays who sat and talked with me after my appointment one day -- just like my own Dad would have done if he noticed I was upset. I can never repay his kindness or his gift of my life that he gave back to me, but I hope his family and friends will be comforted by this message. Rest In Peace, Dr. Mays. You're gone too soon. I was so saddened to hear of Dr. Mays' passing.  Not only was he very knowledgeable and professional, he was also kind-hearted, and had a genuine concern about the overall health of his patients.  His passing will be a great loss for so many.  I will be keeping the family in my prayers.

Dear Mrs. Mayes and Children,
I am truly sorry for your Great Loss.  Dr. Stricker Mayes became my doctor 31 years ago in 1991 as I was referred to him by the Fertility Institute in Gulf Breeze by Dr. Payne whom said that Dr. Stricker Mayes would be the Best  Doctor at Sacred Heart to deliver my baby.   He delivered my Son in 1992 and then he delivered my daughter in 1993.  As the years went by, he helped me through the loss on my Son in 2011 and went on to become my Daughter's Doctor as they became young ladies.  Primum non nocere is part of the Doctor's Oath, and to truly care is part of this Doctor's character.    I can't imagine this world without him.   Dr. Stricker Mayes always gave out free smiles, joyful hugs, lots of lengthy advice:).   There will never be another Dr. Stricker Mayes, truly  a Great Man, Great Doctor, and Great Friend.  Dr. Mayes will be deeply missed.

Dr. Mays  always had time to listen to patients  and to make them feel heard.  His quick wit and charismatic personality, coupled with his love of family will be missed by many.  Sending prayers of comfort to Myra and family. Diane 

My sincerest condolences to Myra and family.  He has been my doctor for 19 years.  Always a smile, always a proponent of healthy living, always supportive.  He has left a huge hole in the hearts of so many lives.  Dr Mays is the example for all of us to live life everyday to the fullest with love, laughter, and a keen sense of adventure and new challenges.  He will be missed by so many of us who he cared for with love and kindness.

My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to sweet Myra and all of the Mays family during this time of great loss and deep sorrow.   Strick’s big heart, big smile and laughter certainly could fill a room.  Some of his golf buddies and friends in the 19th hole were just telling the funniest stories from Strick when they were all together a few short weeks ago.  He brought to them tears with many laughs and now he has brought them to tears of sadness because of the loss of their friend.  Prayers today and in the days ahead.

I always enjoyed running around woods and mountains with Strick.   

Loni and I both especially enjoyed the trip to New Mexico.   It was a memory we will cherish.

My heart is breaking for you all. I have been a patient  and friend of Stricker for ten years. He was so proud of his family.  We shared pictures and stories of his veterinarian,  hunting with his son, and spending quality time with his wife. 

Stricker was a Blessing on this side of life. He saved my life and I know our friendship helped him get back to our Lord. Prayers for Peace beyond all understanding. 


Myra, David and Melissa and extended family, first and foremost prayers for all of you at this time of terrible loss.  As I was praying especially for Myra Thursday night, I pictured just a swarm of engulfing love around her.

Dr. Mays was a pleasure to work with and had the personality to make each person of his staff feel they were of value to his practice.  We, including him, worked hard to make the practice work and help other but also took the time to enjoy each other.
One of my greatest stories of Dr. Mays was when I had to call him one evening about an issue with a staff member and how fantastic his reaction was to the situation.  This is the rest of her story;
“ So sorry to hear of the sudden loss of Dr Mays, we all were so worried about Dr Mays starting to work in our office after Dr Frazier had to retired but it turned out to be great. Dr Mays made all of us girls love him as much as we did Dr Frazier. I personally will never forget how wonderful he was to me the night we lost our Ricky, he sat with me, cried with me, drank out of the same Diet Coke I was drinking and blew his nose on the same handkerchief I did. May God give Myra and the kids the comfort they will need in the coming months and years. “ Faye Still

I’m so very sorry to hear of your loved one's passing.
Dr.Mays, was a wonderful doctor.
I was his patient while he was in Pensacola and after he moved to Crestview, Florida.
He even came up to hunt several times around my place because of the deer and he always said he loved the area.
He certainly will be missed by all who knew him!

Our prayer for you all  that you may feel the presence of our Heavenly Father and the comfort that only He can give during this very difficult time!

I worked with Dr Mays,  after Dr Frazier had to retire, we all wasn’t sure what to expect but it turned out to be great. We learned to love him and felt he loved us also. I am so very sorry for your loss Myra and also the kids, may God give you the strength to carry on until you guys met again.

Please know that I share your grief in the loss from this world of Doctor Mays he was certainly a dynamic person as well as a great physician.  I worked with him at NOMC and I was one of his patients.
 I recall one particular day in surgery when I was really down in the dumps and Doctor Mays came in with all of his vibrance and vitality... he told me a fishing story that completely lifted my spirits and entirely turned my day around in fact it turned my month around because he gave me quite an attitude adjustment.  About focusing on the fun we have in this journey we call "our life". That was part of what made him so compelling he had a great outlook on life and a lot of positivity which was infectious.  My heart goes out to you his family please know that I also mourn.  I doubt he will ever be forgotten.

I am so sad to hear about Dr. Mays passing away. He was a wonderful physician and I was sad to leave his care when I moved to Birmingham. We talked a lot about marriage and Alabama football. He shared that his wife bought him the Daniel Moore painting that hung in his office when they were young and in school, and how special it was to him. Praying for his family. 

I worked with Dr. Mays when he and Dr. Antoinette  took over Dr. Frazier's practice. Strick Mays was a kind and generous employer. That office had the best staff ever. All the women who worked in that practice are still connected and gather together when we can. We all miss the old days. Blessings to Myra, David, and, Melissa as they mourn the loss of Strick.

Myra, Strick, and myself had the pleasure of hitting a coral reef coming out of Gun Cay in the Bahamas.  We limped across the Gulf Stream with bent props, and went to Miami for a week while being repaired.  We missed our chance to go to Cuba due to this bad mistake.
I have never seen a man who loved life more than he did.  He was a bill fishing wonder who never tired of it and would go anywhere to catch them.  Loved his wife, family, and being outdoors.  He will be missed by all.  May God give you time to realizing life without him.  I will miss him.  He taught me a lot about fishing.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Mays.  Praying for comfort and peace for all who cherished this wonderful man.   I would not have been able to bring my daughter into this world without his help.  He will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure working with Dr. Mays at NOMC and was a patient of his. He was a always nice to me and made sure I was at my 100%. He was an awesome man and Doctor. He will be greatly missed but Heaven has received a truly wonderful man.

Dr. Mays was a fantastic coworker when I had the privilege of working with him at North Okaloosa Medical Center. I’m so shocked and so sad to hear of Dr Mays passing. I’m saddened for Myra’s loss and his family.  He was the best doctor ever and really cared—won’t be another like him. First time I met him 20 years ago—I knew he was the right doctor as he was wearing blue jeans! ❤️ I loved my visits with him as we would always talk politics and insurance and travel. Sorry to those after me as I would always cause him to run late.

Myra and family. Please know that Patti and I are saddened by the loss of Strick as I know you are. We have some many memories of Jr High, High School, and college. I wouldn’t have made it through Geometry without Strick. I’m pretty sure the only tome he studied was when I came over for his help. As a long time patient I am so saddened to hear this news. My thoughts and prayers are with Myra and family. I’m so glad he had moved closer to the children and grandchildren . When I asked him once about a hunting trip he was planning , he said, “We work hard so we can play hard”. I believe he truly did.  So thankful for all the care I received .
