Sybil Harper McWhorter

Sybil was born in Jones County Mississippi on November 8, 1920 to Hettie and J. Frank Harper. She graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1940.

Sybil married Felton G. McWhorter, in October 1941 and was married to him until his death in 1983. Together they had 3 children; Hugh C. McWhorter of Madison, MS; Alton G. McWhorter, of Dallas, TX and Cindy Carrington of Mineral Bluff, GA. She worked for the Mississippi Department of Transportation in the Materials Laboratory for over 35 years until she retired in 2004. She is survived by her children, grandson William Taylor Ryan of Starkville, MS, daughter-in-law Sherry McWhorter of Dallas, TX, sister-in-law, Alice Chandler of Vicksburg, MS and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hettie and J. Frank Harper and her husband, F. G. McWhorter.

Funeral services for Sybil McWhorter will be held at the Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS 39157 on Wednesday, May 4th at 3 pm. Visitation will be at Parkway Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 3rd from 5-7 pm.

The family would like to thank all the staff and residents of Sunnybrook Estates in Madison for making her years there safe and enjoyable. The family would also like to thank the physicians, nurses and staff at the University of Mississippi Medical Center for the excellent care they provided for her over the years and in her final days.
