
Walter Kendall Quinn, 88, of Flora, a well-known leader in the cattle industry, died July 19, 2012, in Canton. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland. Graveside services are scheduled for 3:30 PM, Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Flora City Cemetery.
He was born in Old Hebron in 1923, and was the son of the late Shelby V. Quinn and Lester Morris Quinn. A member of the Greatest Generation, Mr. Quinn enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 18 during World War II and landed in France two days after D-Day.
After his military service Mr. Quinn moved to Jackson and began a long career in the cattle business. He later started the business that became Quinn Cattle Company, which he operated until his retirement. He was inducted into the Mississippi Cattlemen Association’s Hall of Fame in 2010. Mr. Quinn has been a resident of Flora since 1964.
Mr. Quinn is survived by his daughter Cherie Crawford of Flora and his two sons, Jim Quinn of Madison and Ricky Quinn of Canton; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, the late Joy Lee Quinn; a brother, Percy Quinn; and his parents.
