She was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 15,1934; the youngest of four with three older brothers to coach her in their close-knit family. Her parents were George and Helene (Nellie) Carlin. She graduated from John W. Hallahan High school and worked in downtown Philly for the Bell Telephone Company. She met her husband Paul J. Ferrall at a St. Matthew’s dance in Philly and they enjoyed music and dancing at local clubs. They married on June 19,1954 and later settled in Belmawr, NJ to raise their family. With Paul’s rise within Atlantic Refining they moved around the country and lived in Port Arthur Texas, Northern New Jersey and finally to the Los Angeles area with ARCO where they lived and raised their six children. Annette was happy to face the challenges of new locations and meeting new friends. They loved Hacienda Heights and called it home for many years. She loved trips to the beach, gardening and keeping up with her busy family. Decorating and entertaining for all the holidays was her favorite. They loved to celebrate Thanksgiving with a Turkey ‘bowl’ of neighborhood football (and baseball) games followed by a traditional feast. Christmas was so special with family and friends and they hosted many New Year’s Eve parties. Annette and Paul loved hosting a Fourth of July celebration and fireworks extravaganza for the street.
Annette and Paul both supported St John Vianney Catholic Church in many ways and were involved in teaching religious education, lector, rosary group, The Lazarus Society and her favorite job ‘volunteering’ her children to help with the church festival every year. They traveled the world extensively including trips to Australia, New Zealand, several trips to China, Africa, and many trips to Europe and Hawaii. A highlight for Annette was greeting Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. She was happiest when hosting extended family and sharing her love of Southern California. They raised their six kids with a strong work ethic and emphasized a love of faith and family. They enjoyed spending time with their 20 grandchildren attending their school events and graduations and hosting them on many wonderful adventures. The most memorable were the Carnival Cruises, camping trips to Sequoia, and family beach reunions in San Diego, all highlights in our memory books. Annette had the knack of keeping things silly and fun, she loved to tease about stories from ‘the old country’. She played games with the family and had a way of seeing ‘the funny’ in all things.
Annette is survived by Donnamarie Ferrall Schey, Paul J. Ferrall Jr (Mary), Maureen Hutchinson (Michael), Kevin Ferrall (Joanne), Maribeth Kutsunai (Roy) and Stephen J. Ferrall (Lydia). There are 20 grandchildren: Daniel, Elsbeth, Joseph, Paul III, Emily, Molly, Katarina, Megan, Kristin, Jessica, Sean, Colleen, Kevin Jr., Theresa, Matthew, Allison, Jennifer, Derek, Thomas and Jacob, her 23 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
