Barbara "Tena" Subriar

Barbara completed the 10th grade of school and then chose to work on her father's farm where they raised chickens and sold eggs. She also worked in her dad's cotton fields.

In the small town of Shafter, she met and fell in love with Lawrence Subriar. Lawrence enlisted in the Marine Corps prior to the second World War where he survived Pearl Harbor and fought major battles in the Pacific. They were reunited and married in 1944.

In 1945 Lawrence Lee was born, and in 1949 Richard Joe was born. She doted on her boys. Both boys have fond memories of their mom working in the school cafeteria and cleaning classrooms during the school year.

Barbara did not shy away from hard work. For years she worked in the potato fields and potato sheds. She was also a “Row Boss” in the grape fields where they cut grapes to make raisins.

In 1966 Lawrence found a new job and the family moved to Riverside, CA, where he and Barbara both worked at Loma Linda Food Factory. She retired because of medical reasons several years later and found great joy in staying home and taking care of her growing family.

It was at this time that her family blossomed and over the years she welcomed 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren that she cherished with all her heart. Her family meant the world to her. Family gatherings and long visits were a treasure, she loved to cook and bake for all to enjoy. She took great pride in teaching her grandkids and great grandkids her favorite recipes and always looked forward to their visit to have scallops, ice-cream cones, or homemade pie. She was the best pie maker.

Barbara was devoted in her faith and regularly attended La Sierra Seventh Day Adventist Church. Her faith was her strong hold and she practiced it without question. She was truly a Godly woman and one that we all admired.

Barbara lived a long and happy life and will be missed so deeply.

Barbara is survived by her 2 sons: Larry (Judy) and Rick (Stella)

5 Grandchildren: Jeremy (Magan), Tracy (Jim), Jaime, Michelle (Aaron) and Tammy

9 Great Grandchildren: Aubrey, Brandon, Joey, Taylor, Olivia, Ellizabeth, Alex, EJ and Skylar.
