On November 30th, 1983 Erik was the first born of fraternal twin boys, to Arturo and Mercedes Ramirez, twin brother to Derek Ramirez, in Montebello, California. Erik grew up a devout Catholic and carried his faith with him in all he did. We all knew him as often quiet, humorous, and intensively passionate for who and what he loved!
Erik attended school in Rialto, California graduating from Eisenhower High School in 2001. There he joined the ROTC program for three and half years which prepared him for his military career. He was also on the high school wrestling team wrestling at 135 pounds and enjoyed club soccer. After meeting Karina Yzaguirre, they had their first date at a high school dance and eventually began their future. Erik joined the United State Marine Corps in February 2004 at a pivotal time, ready to defend his country and protect those he loved, something he was always destined for. He left for his first deployment March 2005 and upon return welcomed his first-born son Erik Ramirez Jr. Erik and Karina were married February 10, 2006 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He served four years with the United States Marine Corps, with two tours to Iraq. Erik was honorably discharged in 2008 and began his career as a Correctional Officer with the State of California shortly after; continuing to protect his wonderful country and the people he loved.
Erik and Karina raised three beautiful children, Erik Jr, Mark Bryan, and his favorite little girl, his “Gorda”, Leah Gianna. His children and family were his world who he loved endlessly and enjoyed spoiling. Erik was known for his love of sports, music, and his country. He shared this same passion with his kids who are now as faithful and loyal a fan to his all-time favorite teams, USC, LA Dodgers and of course the LA Lakers. He began their baseball, football, soccer, horse riding and wrestling journey; teaching them persistence, resilience and the comradery that comes from being part of something great, just as he learned in the Marines. Erik’s passion for our country is what we will remember and carry with us, he is the perfect example of a true American Patriot.
Erik is survived by his wife Karina; his sons Erik Jr. and Mark; his daughter Leah (Gorda); his parents, Arturo and Mercedes Ramirez; brother Art Ramirez; sister Arleen Sotelo; twin brother Derek Ramirez and a host of nieces and nephews.
