George Zin, or “Georgie Boy,” was born on April 23, 1950 in Bassein, Myanmar (Burma). He is the oldest of 5 boys - Adalbert, Bazil, Trevour, & Ben, with one older sister, Lilian. Much of his young adulthood was spent from one country to another, but mainly in Thailand due to his father (Thet Zin) working for the United Nations FAO. His mother (Freda Zin), now 91 years old, took care of them most of the time.
He attended high school at Ruamrudee International School in Bangkok, then to Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa, OK where he graduated as a pilot and airline mechanic (A&P). He flew cargo planes at Great Western Airlines for 2 years, then went to work for Saudia Airlines in Taif, Saudi Arabia for 7 years. He was stationed in many places such as Casablanca, Bombay, and Pakistan to name a few.
He met his wife (Luzviminda Alviar) through her brother David, who also worked for Saudia Airlines. They were “glassmates,” close drinking buddies. They got married on April 19, 1986 and have 4 children - Veronica, Michael (married to Katlin Barrile, 2018), Valerie (married to Edgar Rodriguez, 2016, with one daughter named Raylene), and Vanessa.
George started working for UPS in 1988 and just received his 30 years of service recognition. He worked hard for his family to provide comfortable living, opportunities to travel, and proper education. He didn’t allow his wife to work for 15 years so that she can raise and take care of their children.
He endured Stage IV lung cancer for 2 years that spread to his bones, liver, and brain. He truly fought the good fight and persevered with his eyes fixed on Jesus. The LORD graciously relieved George of his pain and took him Home on September 30, 2018. He is now resting with Him forever.
