 My condolences to the family of Mr. Stepp, from a former student. Mr. Stepp was a man of character and compassion, and he left a positive impression on me that I continue to carry more than 40 years later.  Prayers to you, Mr. Stepp, one of the good ones. You will continue to live on in the memories of your students for decades to come.

Mr. Stepp was an amazing teacher and man. We had some exciting adventures in class. He was simply crazy. Walking around with a Mr. Microphone doing wrestling announcements about the Iron Sheik Vs. Sgt. Slaughter. I remember being sick and refusing to stay home because we had something fun planned in math. And along the way I learned math as well.  Mr. Stepp was such an influence in my life that I joined the Marine Corps out of high school and afterwards became a math teacher in the same district. I have tried very hard in my career to make my class something students look forward to, the same as I looked forward to Mr. Stepp's class.

Mr. Stepp was a very special person for us Vikings. He was my freshman math teacher. He was always friendly to me when he saw me, and would take the time for a brief conversation. He was also my father's friend and assistant coach. My father always spoke fondly of him. 

Very sorry to hear of Jim's passing.  The world will be that much more bland and humorless.   I will always remember what a good friend he was to my dad.   He was the fun loving adventurer who was up for anything,   and I also remember his booming "boohaha" of infectious laugh,  almost like the cartoon Yogi Bear.   He often laughed until he cried.     My earliest memory of a creative project of his was to turn a big living room couch into more trendy sectionals by chopping it in half.   One of the last ones I remember talking with him about was using the cement mixer he called "little Audrey" to finish landscaping the back citrus garden.  It is a difficult day now,  but the time will come when we can remember him with a smile,  because that was the way he was -- always with a smile of his own for you.
