Janice Mae Christiansen

Jan was passionate about family and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister. She loved animals and every dog and cat she met knew this and would seek her out.

Jan met Leonard Christiansen (aka Chris) on New Year’s Eve in 1960 at a dance for servicemen. He was stationed in Newport, Rhode Island while serving in the Navy. They married November 18, 1961. Soon after arrived Keith (1962), Steven (1963), and Karen (1965).

On April 2, 1971, Chris was killed in the line of duty while serving as a police officer for the City of Riverside. Jan raised her children as a single mother from the young age of 30.

Jan is survived by many family members: Brothers Don Ihlefeld (Dee) of South Port, North Carolina, and Richard Ihlefeld (Darlene) of Warwick, Rhode Island; sons Keith Christiansen (Julie) and Steve Christiansen (Debbie), daughter Karen Christiansen, grandchildren Chad (Sarah), Karlee, Caitlyn (James), Courtney (Daniel), Hannah, Luke (Ashley), and Justin (Lacey), as well as 8 great-grandchildren with a ninth arriving soon.

In addition to Chris, she was preceded in death by her parents Viola in May of 1972 Harvey in June of 1972.

The family has entrusted Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer with the arrangements. A memorial is scheduled for November 15, 2023, at 10:30AM at Acheson and Graham with a graveside service Pierce Bros Crestlawn Cemetery.
