This entry is written hours after John's memorial service. We wanted to let Sheryl, Caryn, and all others involved in the planning of the event know how fine we thought it was. Listening to one surviving brother after the other tell stories about John brought home to us once again what a genuinely and deeply decent and caring person has passed from our midst. The music and photos making up the DVD format were marvelous, too.

Thanks for inviting us and giving us the opportunity to share in the experience you made possible!

We sorely miss the jovial presence of John in his better days. He was as kind and generous as they come.

Goodbye my friend - I'll never forget your laugh or the way your eyes always twinkled, like you were up to great mischief (funny, I just saw someone else mention your “twinkle” too)!  I met you because you married a wonderful friend of mine…then I spent some prime time with you in Oregon, Nashville and California.  Glad we made it to Graceland!  You were so much fun to be with and had a heart of gold, I knew instantly why Sheryl fell in love with you.  Hugs to your wife, daughter, family and friends as they celebrate your wonderful and amazing life.

We met John as a fellow boater in Newport Beach many years ago.  Always cheerful and with a tremendously warm greeting and uplifting attitude.  Attended John and Sheryl's beautiful wedding at the marina. The four of us became fast friends.  We shared many, many fun times together - barbecues on the dock, trips to Ensenada, Christmas Boat Parade ... too many to mention them all!  We will miss John. Our love and prayers go out to Sheryl and Caryn.

I'll never forget the way it felt to be greeted by Uncle John - a grand "hey kiddo!", followed by a big bear hug and a chuckle.  His smile, his laugh and his warmth were infectious to say the least.  May God bless you "Uncle Bud" for the love you shared with each of us and for setting an example of how we can make this life just a little bit more fun!  xoxo

We first met John as a volunteer at Nehalem Bay State Park in Oregon. We enjoyed his positive spirit and love of life , as well as that mischievous twinkle in his eye ! He leaves us all with wonderful memories. May God's comfort and guidance continue to be with us.

We met John in Oregon at Ft Stevens St Park. He was a good friend and always so glad to hear from us and see  us . He welcomed us to his home and showed us the sights of So Ca., We always looked forward to our Summers in the NW and will miss him so. We met John seven years ago as a fellow volunteer in Oregon State Parks and it was a very short time before we felt as though we had known him all our lives.  His passing will leave a very large hole in our hearts.

We have only known John for 11 years and have only seen him a handful of times,(we live in Ohio)  however, he touched our hearts with his laughter and many other ways.  We had wonderful times with him and Sheryl every time we saw them.  May you rest in peace John.  You will be missed.

Since 1969, in South Bend, Indiana,  we have loved John.  He was one of a kind....the best friend any person or family could have had. We will cherish his memory.
