

Larry Bruce Koenig, a remarkable individual whose life was filled with accomplishments, generosity, and a passion for living, passed away on June 2, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that will forever inspire those who knew him. Born on April 26, 1951, in Alameda, California, Larry was the son of Albert H. Koenig and Vernell R. Koenig (Yoder), both of whom have preceded him in death.
On May 9, 1981, Larry married Barbara in a chapel in South Lake Tahoe. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and wonderful experiences. Together, they raised three children: Kelly Lynn McGowan (Regan), Kevin Ray Kerr (April), and Jessica Nicole Maya (Lorenzo). Larry cherished his role as a father and was a constant source of support and guidance to his children. One of Larry's great joys was his vibrant personality and the deep connections he fostered with family and friends. He was a loving brother to Charles Koenig and Albert Koenig, and a caring brother-in-law to Elke Koenig and Connie Koenig. Larry cherished his role as a grandfather to Morgan Kerr, Ryan McGowan, and Dylan Cianciarusa. He took immense pride in their accomplishments, always cheering them on and offering unwavering support in their endeavors. Larry's presence in their lives brought joy and laughter, and his love will continue to be a guiding light for them as they navigate their own paths.
From an early age, Larry displayed a natural inclination for athleticism and academic excellence. As a young boy, he played Pop Warner Football for the Alameda Warriors from 1962 to 1965, nurturing a love for the sport that would endure throughout his life. Larry enlisted in the United States Army, and had a tour of duty in Vietnam. For his bravery and heroism, he was awarded the Army Commendation with Valor July 1, 1970. Larry's service to his country was a testament to his selflessness and courage. Larry's dedication to education led him to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Cal State Fullerton on June 1, 1977, earning him well-deserved honors. During his college years, he was a distinguished member of the Account Society and Beta Alpha PSI, the National Honorary Accounting Fraternity.
Professionally, Larry left an indelible mark in the field of accounting and finance. He worked for esteemed national public accounting firms, including McGladrey & Pullen and RSM McGladrey, where he excelled as a partner from 1990 to 2008. Larry's commitment to his work and exceptional abilities led to numerous accolades, including the Network Service award in 1998 for bringing in approximately $600,000 from two engagements. In 2008, he ventured to start his own audit and management consulting business, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. Later, he accepted positions at the University of California, Riverside, Office of Design and Construction, and the University of California, Irvine, Facilities Management/Project Services, where his expertise and dedication contributed to their success.
Larry had a passion for sports, particularly HIS "Oakland" Raiders, and was an active member of a Fantasy Football Group for two decades. He had a thirst for adventure, enjoying motorcycle trips on his beloved Harley and exhilarating rides on quads in Glamis. Larry's love for physical challenges led him to participate in the OCPAC Triathlon on June 1, 1986, showcasing his unwavering determination and resilience.
Larry Bruce Koenig's impact on the lives he touched was immeasurable. His legacy of dedication, compassion, and a zest for life will forever be remembered. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the remarkable person he was and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to have known him. Larry will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, a constant reminder of the power of love, resilience, and the enduring influence of a life well-lived.
